Matthew James Forsythe August 24,1982 ~ September 27, 2019

Memorial Service - October 5, 2019 - 11:00 am

“I tell you most solemnly, you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy. For I shall see you again, and your hearts will be full of joy, and that joy no one shall take from you.” John 16:20 and 22

Matthew James Forsythe passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 27, 2019.  The profound sadness we feel in announcing Matt’s passing is tempered by the consolation that scripture tells us that those who place their trust in Jesus have the full assurance of salvation. Matt was happy to be counted in that number.

Matt was born in Thompson, Manitoba on August 24, 1982 to the late Loreen (Schmidt) (1993) and Terry Forsythe. He lived with his family, which included his older sisters Kimberley and Rachel in Thompson, Geraldton, and Elliot Lake, enjoying a happy childhood and developing a preference for sports over academia. He tried his hand at post-secondary education and attended Mohawk College and Emmanuel Bible College settling in Parry Sound in 2003.

Matt was passionate about hockey and was happy to talk at length on the subject to anyone who was likeminded. He also had an abiding interest in basketball, golf, and politics, but most of all he was happiest reflecting on his children. Developing an interest in travel, he was grateful to have experienced two short term mission trips to Nicaragua.

Three defining experiences that occurred during Matt’s formative years were the development of epilepsy at the age of 10, the loss of his mom the following year, and a profession of faith in his late teens. These events greatly influenced the person he became.

On November 20, 2010, Matt married Sandra Ann Leigh and soon their family grew to include Elizabeth, Alexander, Emily, and Liam. A short time later, Matt was pleased to join the staff of the local Canadian Tire store where he enjoyed working until his passing.

Beside the aforementioned, Matt leaves to mourn his passing his loving stepmom Rosemary, mother-in-law Sandra, sister-in-law Alexis, brothers-in-law John Lazaridis (Kimberley), Desmond Courtney (Rachel) and Clifford Leigh (Amanda). He will be sorely missed by aunts, uncles, cousins, a nephew and 4 nieces. Matt was predeceased by his mother, grandparents, father-in-law Allan, and son Andrew James.

Family and friends will be received for visitation on Saturday October 5, 2019 from 10:00 – 11:00 am followed by the Funeral service at 11:00am at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (58 Seguin St. Parry Sound.). Interment to follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to 3-Fold Ministries http://www.threefold-ministries.org/donate/. or a charity of your choice.
