Isabelle Ford (nee Aitken) March 24, 1931 ~ July 28, 2020
Beloved Mother and Grandmother peacefully passed away on July 28, 2020 at her cottage in Seguin, Ontario following a spirited battle with cancer. As she said shortly before she died, she “had a good run”.
Isabelle was born in London, Ontario and followed her late husband, Richard (Dick) Ford to Kingston, Hamilton, and Deep River as he pursued graduate studies. They settled in Sarnia in 1958 and the young couple began to build a family, that soon grew to include Douglas, Sharon, and Don. Although she trained as an X-Ray technician and worked to support Dick through graduate school, she dedicated her life in Sarnia to her children. Once her children were all through elementary school, Isabelle began working at a local hobby shop. She ended up buying the place and ran it for several years.
Summers were spent at a cottage south of Parry Sound that they shared with Dick’s brother, Bob and his family. Dick and Isabelle built their own cottage on Three Legged Lake in 1978. This was Isabelle’s happy place to fish, canoe, watch the birds, and enjoy time with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Sharon (Jay Parsons) and Don (Jean Ford). She was predeceased by her eldest son, Douglas, and Dick, with whom she shared more than 63 years of marriage. Her five grandchildren, Chris and Michael Parsons and Brian (Jess), Eric, and Allison Ford will miss her smiles and kindness. Predeceased by her siblings; Christina Benson (Benny), Jim Aitken (Rene), Peggy Aitken, Bill Aitken, Jean Milne (Sandy), Allan Ford (Audrey), and Robert Ford. Deeply missed by sisters-in-law June Aitken and Virginia Ford.
Never one to sit still, she had a profound love of the outdoors and northern Canada. Over her long life, she hiked the Chilkoot Trail, rafted the Coppermine River to the Arctic Ocean, canoed the Mountain River, and hiked both Baffin and Ellesmere Islands. Cremation arrangements entrusted to the Torrance Funeral Home. (89 Bowes St. Parry Sound).
In lieu of flowers the family would suggest donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation.
