Keith Adams May 11, 1922 ~ January 07, 2020
Peacefully, on Tuesday January 7, 2020 at Lakeland Long Term Care in his 98th year. Loving husband of the late Jean McVittie Adams (Haileybury ON). Dedicated parent, and proud father of Peter (Ingrid) and Susan Wauro (Wayne). Beloved ‘Gramps’ to Perrin, Lauren, Terese (Kyle), and Brendan (Faith). He is predeceased by his brother, Grant (Lorraine). Deep appreciation for his nephew and wife, Bill and Paula Adams.
Keith was a man of his times. Raised during the Depression, he was a hard worker even at a young age. Born in Guelph and raised in Toronto, he attended Central Technical School where he found his passion – Aviation. He loved the education in Aircraft Mechanics that he received there, and after graduation was immediately able to apply his knowledge/skills when he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943. He spent 33 months working in aircraft maintenance in PEI, NL, and NS, ending his career with the RCAF as Leading Air Craftsman.
After the war, he worked primarily with AVRO in Malton and Leavens Aviation in Toronto for several years. During this time, one of his chums who was a teacher at Central Technical School, mentioned that he would do well in teaching. With the help and support of his wife, Keith began teaching aircraft maintenance at ‘Tech’, where he eventually became the Head of the Aircraft Department. During his time as Department Head, the program was considered one of the pre-eminent places of learning in Canada for students wanting to pursue a career in Aircraft Maintenance.
He married Jean McVittie in 1954 and was married for almost 52 years, having two children he loved dearly. He was very proud of his accomplishments, and his family. In his later years he often stated that, “I’ve had a good life, and have lived well”. He will be dearly missed by many friends, extended family, former students & co-workers, and the staff at Lakeland. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Torrance Funeral Home (89 Bowes St. Parry Sound). If desired, donations to the Canadian Red Cross or your local Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.
